Santino Fontana, who is playing the young romantic lead Rodolpho in the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge, missed the January 7 performance of the show and will be out for several more performances. According to a statement from the producers, “Santino Fontana is out of the show due to doctor’s orders because of a minor concussion that occurred during a performance last weekend. We expect him to be back in the show as soon as possible.” A View from the Bridge began previews on December 28 at the Cort Theatre and will open on January 24, directed by Gregory Mosher.
Although details of Fontana’s injury were not revealed, his character, who falls in love with Catherine (played by Scarlett Johansson), is involved in an onstage fight in Act Two with Liev Schreiber as Catherine’s jealous uncle, Eddie Carbone.
Fontana joined the cast of A View from the Bridge after the abrupt closing of the Broadway revival of Brighton Beach Memoirs, in which he played Stanley Jerome. Other Broadway credits include Billy Elliot and Sunday in the Park with George. Off-Broadway, he starred in the revival of The Fantasticks.
Understudy Morgan Spector will play the part of Rodolpho until Fontana’s return.
